What is Emotion Code Therapy?
Why the Emotion Code?

In my practice at Inner Light Healing, I use the Emotion Code—a simple yet powerful way to identify and release trapped emotional energy that the subconscious mind stored in an effort to protect us from further pain.
Emotions shape the quality of our lives. Low-frequency states like fear or anger feel very different from high-frequency states like love and gratitude. Those higher states foster coherence between the brain and heart, help regulate the nervous system, restore balance, and create the conditions for healing.
Modern research directions such as epigenetics, psychoneuroimmunology, and quantum biology suggest that what we feel can influence our biology—even at the cellular level. Uplifting emotions often support healthy regulation, while prolonged negative states can contribute to dysregulation.
Being our best selves means releasing what holds us back. When we take ownership of our energetic health and pair it with clear healing intention, we move toward the higher vibrational states that support balance, regulation, and thriving.
Every emotion carries an energetic signature. When that energy becomes trapped, it can create imbalances that affect organs and tissues—or disrupt your overall field, thoughts, and mood. Frameworks like Dr. David Hawkins’ Map of Consciousness illustrate how lower-vibration emotions can color our outlook and experience.
By releasing trapped emotions with the Emotion Code, we help remove those imbalances so your body can do what it’s designed to do—recalibrate, restore, and move you toward a lighter, healthier, happier life.

What Are Trapped Emotions?
In my experience, trapped emotions are unresolved emotional energies from past events, trauma, or abuse that we continue to carry. They can show up as all kinds of symptoms—impacting health, relationships, career, and overall success. They may even block us from feeling true love and happiness, leaving us disconnected or lonely.
Because emotions are energy—just like the rest of the body—they can influence tissues, organs, and overall wellness. Trapped emotions can contribute to pain or dysfunction and strongly shape how we think, the choices we make, and how we respond to everyday challenges.
I often describe trapped emotions as balls of energy lodged in the body. Each has its own frequency based on the emotion. That “stuck” vibration can affect the area where it’s held and also disturb overall balance and well-being.
Trapped Emotions are identified individually and released one at a time, not in groups or bundles.
In my experience, every trapped emotional energy matters. Each one traces back to a specific moment or event—something I lived through or an energy I may have inherited or absorbed from someone else. These residues can influence us in many ways, showing up as challenges, problems, and pain—both physical and emotional.
Wherever they come from, their impact can be very real. Sometimes the discomfort is intense, and I’ll often find clusters of trapped emotions near the area where the body hurts most.
When we release these energies, the body can rebalance and do more of what it’s built to do—heal. Using the Emotion Code, I regularly see physical and emotional issues ease, and in some cases resolve or become far less intense.

Will I Feel the Emotional Release?
You might! Many of our clients report various sensations as the energy moves out of them. These include yawning (which is a big sign of energy release!), getting the chills, a wave of nausea, momentary headache, sometimes burping, a surge from the center out to the hands and feet, and more. It all depends on your body. Sometimes clients simply feel the particular emotion we are releasing, like anger or sadness. And sometimes they feel nothing, which is fine and normal.
What Happens After Releasing Trapped Emotions?
Your body knows exactly how many trapped emotions it can release and in what order it wants to release them. Your practitioner will help to find these answers from your body during your session.
Most of the time you will find that you can identify and release about five to ten trapped emotions in a thirty minute session. This is typical, but sometimes you may find that your body will only allow you to release two or three emotions in a session, and that’s okay. Trust the wisdom of the body!
When you have released all your body can release in a session, usually you will lose the ability to be tested momentarily because your body is processing and is on a state of overload. When that happens, you are done for the time being, until the next session generally. This usually takes 1-2 days, but can take up to 4 or 5 days for some people. Again, your practitioner will help to find these answers from your body during your session.
Each person is different in their process, from how many emotions they can release in one session, to how they feel afterward. How many trapped emotions are involved in one issue you are having varies as well. The whole process is completely customized to you!
Children Get Trapped Emotions, Too!
A common misconception is that this kind of emotional release therapy is only applicable to adults. We often think of children as being too young and innocent to acquire the excess baggage that we have acquired through our years as adults. Sadly, children have emotions that they need help with as well.
The truth is that children and teens face a wide range of challenges, and it can be difficult for adults to understand their child’s perspective and the impact that experiences of the world can have on them. The Emotion Code addresses the root of the imbalances, which can be physical, mental, emotional, and/or spiritual.
Causes & Symptoms of
Trapped Emotions In Children
- Self-esteem or social issues
- Fear or obsessive worrying
- Autism, Asperger Syndrome or PDD-NOS
- Chronic illness or other physical dis-ease
- Body image issues or eating disorder
- Have experienced abuse (mental, emotional, physical, sexual)
- Depression or mood changes
- Struggling at school
- Following medical or dental procedure
- Bedwetting, nightmares, night terrors
- Indigo, crystal, and rainbow children
- Traumatic birth or other trauma / injury as an infant
- ADHD, ODD or OCD
- Struggling with spiritual gifts
- Have been bullied or are bullying others
- High anxiety, sensitivity, or heightened emotional responses
- Experiencing the divorce of their parents
- Will be or have recently received a vaccine
Even children who aren’t suffering from any imbalances can benefit from an energy healing session as part of their wellness routine. Sessions not only remove trapped negative emotions and other imbalances that may not yet be outwardly affecting the child, but also work to maintain a healthy and high-vibrational energy field, which is essential to general wellbeing.
Teens, children and infants of any age can be tested, verbal or not. Most often we find trapped emotions in a child from when they were in the womb. Usually, these are the mothers emotions during pregnancy, although sometimes they can come from the father or even from somebody else living with the family at the time; like a grandmother, grandfather, or sibling.
Children also acquire trapped emotions during birth, school, family events, or any other occasion in their lives. These trapped emotions can have an effect on their behavior and possibly lead to learning difficulties and relationship issues.
Emotional release therapy is a great option for the whole family! Family dynamics can be greatly improved and it is a worthwhile investment.
Frequently Asked Questions

🌿 What is Emotional Release Therapy?
Emotional Release Therapy is a gentle process that helps identify and release trapped emotional energy from past experiences. These emotions can linger in the body, causing stress, tension, or imbalance. By releasing them, clients often feel lighter, calmer, and more at peace.
💫 Who is this best suited for?
Anyone who feels stuck, stressed, emotionally weighed down, or ready for change may benefit. It’s especially supportive for those who:
- Feel like they’ve tried other approaches but still feel “blocked”
- Experience recurring emotional patterns
- Want to release stress and invite more peace and clarity into their lives
💫 How is this different from traditional talk therapy?
Talk therapy involves discussing experiences and emotions to gain insight and perspective. Emotional Release Therapy works on an energetic level, clearing the emotional charge without needing to relive or retell painful stories. Many people use both approaches together for powerful results.
🕒 What Is a Processing Period?
You may have been living with your emotional baggage (traumas, stress or abuse) for a long time, so it’s important to let your body lead the way when is comes to releasing the trapped negative energy.
When an emotion is released though Emotional Release Therapy, the body is finally allowed to go through a Processing Period – or healing period, which usually lasts for a day or two.
About 20% of the time, people will notice “symptoms” of processing, such as: emotional sensitivity, crying, sleeplessness, a need for more sleep, vivid dreams, mild headache, or fatigue. Very rarely, an exacerbation of physical or emotional symptoms occurs, but like all processing it should last only about a day or two at most.
At the end of your appointment, your practitioner will inquire how long your body wants to process the changes that arose from the session. This Processing Period may coincide with one or more mild yet noticeable symptoms, or not.
Most people tend to feel lighter and happier after an emotional release. If this doesn’t occur right after the release, it usually occurs after the Processing Period is completed.
🗒️ What Is a Session Report?
Following each session, you will receive your Session Report, which is a summary of your entire energy healing session. Your report will include an account of what you and your practitioner worked on, which emotions were detected and released, any recommendations or homework your practitioner provided, and any other important information discussed during your session.
Your report will be emailed to you as a PDF attachment within 72 hours after your appointment. The report won’t include any identifying information beyond your name and the general information as outlined above.
❓ How many Sessions will I need?
This question is asked frequently, and it really varies between each person. Your intake session will be effective and allow you to experience the results of Emotional Release Therapy.
If you are dealing with an emotional trauma, stress or abuse that was severe or has been with you for a long time, it may take more than one session to fully release and process all the trapped emotions from that trauma. Following your initial visit, your practitioner will recommend any additional sessions based on your goals, needs and response to the first session. Typically this will be between 3-5 sessions and no more than one week apart. Your practitioner will advise you on what will be best for your optimal healing.
Most clients prefer to come back once or twice per month for maintenance sessions once their major traumas have been released. You can choose to have weekly or bi-weekly sessions, too, if you wish.
💊 Can Emotional Release Therapy help my addiction?
Yes! We have seen amazing results when working with clients who have addictions. We believe this is because most of the time addictions aren’t a problem; they are usually someone’s solution.
People tend to abuse drugs/alcohol/coffee/food/porn etc. because it helps relieve whatever pain they may be in and don’t want to feel (i.e. underlying trapped emotions). Once clearing someone’s trapped emotions, the underlying cause of the addiction is released.
🌸 Do I need to relive past trauma in a session?
Not at all. One of the benefits of Emotional Release Therapy is that you don’t need to re-experience the entire event or go into every painful detail. At times, I may ask for a little more context to help us identify the source of the trapped energy, but it’s more like gentle investigative work than reliving the trauma. The focus is always on releasing the stored energy, not retelling the whole story.
⚡ How many sessions will I need?
Everyone’s journey is unique. Some people notice shifts after just one or two sessions, while others benefit from a series of sessions to work through deeper patterns. Most clients start with a 3-session package for the best results.
✨ Can sessions be done online?
Yes. Emotional Release Therapy works just as effectively virtually as it does in person. During online sessions, I connect with you energetically through a process called proxy testing, which allows me to identify and release trapped emotions on your behalf. It’s a gentle and non-invasive way of working together, and you can simply relax in the comfort of your own home while the process takes place.
🌙 What will I feel during a session?
Most clients describe the sessions as calming and supportive. Some feel physical sensations like warmth, tingling, or lightness as emotions are released. Others simply feel more relaxed and peaceful.
🌿 Is this a medical or psychological treatment?
No. Emotional Release Therapy is a complementary wellness practice, not a substitute for medical or psychological care. It does not diagnose, treat, or cure medical or mental health conditions. Many clients use it alongside traditional care as part of their overall wellness journey.
🌸 Is it safe?
Yes. Emotional Release Therapy is a non-invasive, gentle process. You are always in control, and the focus is on supporting your well-being in a safe and comfortable way. While many clients experience positive shifts, individual experiences may vary, and this work is not a substitute for medical or psychological care. By choosing to participate, you acknowledge responsibility for your own well-being during and after the session.
🌟 What happens after a session?
Many people notice an immediate sense of lightness or calm. In the days after, you may feel more clarity, improved sleep, or subtle emotional shifts. Occasionally, old emotions may briefly surface as they release — this is a normal part of the process and usually passes quickly.
